I returned to the Vishnu temple this morning just after sunrise and the morning puja was being prepared, the statues of the gods covered in fresh flowers, the ghee paste put on wicks and onto a Naja (snake) burning plate that when lit is used to illuminate the gods, and, I suppose, to awaken the gods and welcome them to a new day. this ritual is accompanied by chants and the sound of the bell. I was able to approach and touch the statue before it was awoken and its in fact in stone, but the image that stays in my mind is that of shining silver. We were only five in this special place for the morning prayer and it will, with no doubt, stay in my mind for some time.
